Guess they're trying to encourage JWs into retirement. They recently had some stupid talk about encouraging oldies to sell up and serve where the need was greater.

Trying to overcome my homophobia.
by Julia Orwell ini had a music album by a gay guy before i was a jw and had no problem listening to it.
it's good music.
some of the lyrics are what you might call 'gay', that is there's some talk about boyfriends, gay bars, and queens and the intolerance the artist encountered as a gay man.

I've never heard of a gay pride event in Australia except for the Sydney mardi gras. I've seen that on tv and it's pretty cool but all the kissing is just gross. And I go back to my point of it being gross to me if it were heteros dancing down the street kissing and slobbering too.
I'm glad gay people can be gay these days, rather than having to marry and then cheat on the wife with men in the bushes near the beach. Yes, there are 'gay' sex spots around here where men disappear into the bushes for some anonymous sex. At least if they can meet a man and live with him or marry him they aren't cheating on any woman they've felt pressured to marry.
Looking at gay things is helping me to see that they're no different to me. They want companionship and and love like anyone, for instant just someone to cuddle up on the couch with and watch a movie. Not gay sex though. I don't want to look at that.

How many of you followed the WTS direction on education years ago and have been screwed by it?
by Julia Orwell ini'm really interested in this question because i've heard for years that if you forgo further education and go pioneering, when you have a family down the track you will get a good job because jehovah will provide for you because you pioneered.
as long as i was a kool-aid drinker, even then, i thought, "how does pioneering pay your bills?
surely education should come first.

Yes it's pure fluff. But the JWs these days can't really think beyond a slogan.

Totally. I remember them being a big hype at the time but they were never for anything new, just a bunch of hype to make you feel connected to the organisation.

A Handy Guide to Woo and Assorted Superstitions
by cofty init's interesting how superstitious people point the finger and laugh at other people's superstitions.. the only honest thing is to reject all of them.
here is a handy checklist to see if you have missed any.

Hey Shiatsu massage helps with muscle tension so it's not quackery. Maybe some of it is, but any kind of massage is nice for the muscles. And chiropractic straightened out my wonky back and stopped the pain. So while all the crap they go on with is bunk, the fixing of the pain is real.

Fighting JWs on Facebook
by dogon inkind of new for me, but i have been letting go of being in fear of posting what i feel on fb.
i have been posting links to very good videos on youtube that show the history of the cult.
funny thing my one cousin posted how he missed a person who passed and that that god only takes the best to be with him.

I put a lot of wt quotes and general information without commentary designed to get JWs thinking, but instead it earned me abuse and unfriendings. Even from people I've known for years and I thought were close friends. It's better just to unfriend them and cut them away yourself. It's easier. Believe me, the things I had on Facebook brought the god squad to my door to sniff out apostasy, yet no one actually said to my face at that stage that they'd been bothered by my posts...I got the full inquisition fromt the elders. Better just to unfriend any JW you can.

It's called the seven-second presentation around here. I used to like that witnessing cuz I didn't have to actually talk to the strangers I was accosting in their homes.

Since leaving the truth, do you celebrate holidays, and does your participation in such bring you happiness?
by Stand for Pure Worship ini ask this respectfully, and do so after watching a favorite show of mine's season opener which had a new years storyline.
hollywood tends to make movies and television show episodes centered around holiday themes appear warm and blissful.
while i'm thankful to have never participated in such holidays, i can't deny my curiosity about ex-jws that do celebrate.

I grew up celebrating Christmas and birthdays and mother's day and rebelled mightily against them when I started down the jw path from my mid teens. I was a real pain in the butt about holidays and really hurt my mother year after year. Even though I'm not a jw anymore, I still see that holidays are mostly a big money grab for retailers and businesses, and can put a lot of material pressure on families. But, every culture has some sort of communal events and celebrations where people come together and share in the things that make us human. Take a break from day to day life and enjoy food, dancing, decorating and company. Holidays, love them or hate them, are what enables people to express culture and identity. Take that away and you have a bunch of jws in a car who can't imagine what it's like to be human. I know because we all know. We've all been there.

I wore a red poppy today for Remembrance Day and did the minute's silence at 11:00. It made me feel more connected to my community and culture, though this doesn't mean I now think war is great. It's about showing respect to the war dead and finding meaning in our cultural heritage.
Other holidays I still feel a bit awkward because of years of indoctrination, but they do make me happier in that I feel more connected to other human beings rather than an uncomfortable observer looking in from some strange parallel universe

I don“t fit in here, so goodbye and take everyone.
by Mr Fool inafter some reflections i have come to the decision to disfellowship myself from here, permanently.
many interesting argumentations sometimes, thank you adamah for many clever reflections.
criticizing in a bad manner of members and arrogant "i know better than you"-attitudes is a part of it.
